I
started out studying fashion design but emigrated to graphic illustration
after a flash of inspiration from a wonderful group of tutors at
Plymouth College of Art and Design. I was particularly taken with
one project, to write and illustrate a children's book for the Macmillan
book prize, and so 'Guffy's Great Escape' was born.
After studying further at Exeter College of Art and a year working
as an illustrator in London, I moved to the Isle of Wight, UK; exactly
the right environment for my work. I spend most of my time drawing
what I see: red squirrels, trees, countryside, people, sea and in
the last couple of years, babies! Having a child has opened my eyes
to a new side of writing for children. Seeing a story from their
perspective, realising what really interests them comes with first
hand experience.
My work mainly consists of magazine illustrations, games, greetings
cards and house portraits, but I have also worked in video illustration
and taught Life Drawing.
